The product
A company was launching a new type of drone for agriculture: it carries a reservoir and can spray products over fields. We were responsible for the design, the product photoshoot, and generating 3D animations. I handled the web development and the 3D work.
Learning 3D on the job
I had never done 3D animation before this project. I started with YouTube tutorials and landed on Blender as the tool for the job. The engineers gave me the 3D model, which I had to convert from their CAD format to something Blender could use. From there, I created all the shaders, rigged the animations, and directed the videos. Going from zero to rendering finished product videos in a few weeks was intense, but it's one of the most satisfying things I've done.
The website
The site itself is a single page, no backend. Straight HTML with JavaScript and Sass compiled through Webpack. The goal was simple: present the drone, explain what it does, and make it look good.
The product never launched. COVID cut the logistics routes from China before it could reach the market.
