The cathedral burned in 2019 and was closed to the public for years. As the reopening date approached in late 2024, the official website had problems: it wasn't responsive, and it was only available in French. Not ideal for the most visited monument in Paris. There was no time or budget for a full redesign, so the decision was to reskin the existing site and add the missing features.
I worked on the frontend, applying the new skin on top of the existing WordPress structure. The reopening was a national event, broadcasted on prime-time television. That generated traffic spikes far beyond anything a typical corporate site would see. Some issues only surface at that kind of scale, and this was a good reminder that what works fine for a few thousand visitors can break when millions show up at once.
The site is still live today.
